Where Nurse Hitomi came from

Shake-O's series began in Tokuma Shoten's seinen magazine Monthly Comic Ryū in September 2013, a magazine known for monster-girl comedies. When Comic Ryū changed format on June 19, 2018, the series moved online and kept going, reaching 21 volumes by May 2026. Seven Seas Entertainment publishes it in English.

The story: problems only a monster could have

Each chapter usually brings a new student with a very specific problem: a winged girl who cannot keep her feet on the ground, a student who eats everything in sight, a boy whose body parts keep falling off. Hitomi listens, reassures and solves things with her own unusual insight.

Over time the series builds out its staff room too, like Itsuki, a plant-person curious about humans, and Tatara-sensei, the sarcastic four-armed science teacher, and later volumes look back at how they all came to the school.

From page to screen

Nurse Hitomi has not been adapted as an anime, which makes the manga the only way to enjoy it. Fans of monster-girl anime and gentle school comedies will feel right at home, and the series makes a great companion to the many monster-themed anime that have appeared since the 2010s.

Shake-O's art

Shake-O's monster designs are endlessly creative but always cute, and Hitomi's single huge eye is drawn with real expression. The volume titles on Seven Seas' covers, like "Come Up and See Me Sometime!", "Hot Blooded" and "Bikini Thrill", capture the playful tone.

Why Nurse Hitomi matters

In a genre often built on fan service, Nurse Hitomi stands out for its warmth. It is really about accepting differences and caring for young people as they grow up, and that gentle message has kept it running for more than a decade.
